Wilson Mugazhu, a dynamic and passionate student from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), has recently been elected as the 35th President of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA). Currently in his fourth year, Wilson is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Sciences and Livelihoods. His academic journey and leadership experiences have shaped him into a remarkable figure in student governance and community mobilization.
Early Education
Wilson’s educational journey began at Villa Road Primary School in Masaka, where he completed seven years of primary education. He then moved on to St. Stephen’s College Bbajja in Kalungu District for his O-Level studies. During this period, Wilson showcased his leadership skills by serving as the games and sports prefect, fueled by his passion for sports, particularly football and volleyball. His engaging personality also led him to take on significant roles in various clubs, including serving as the president of both the Interact Club and the Debate Club.

A-Level Experience
Wilson’s A-Level experience at St. Jude Masaka was pivotal in his development as a leader. A memorable moment occurred when he delivered a powerful speech during an Interact Club fellowship, which marked the beginning of his realization of his leadership potential. This experience solidified his commitment to leadership and community engagement.
Community Engagement
After completing his A-Level studies, Wilson founded a Youth Association aimed at mobilizing youth for financial independence. Leading a diverse group of young individuals at just 20 years old required humility and a calm demeanor, qualities that Wilson exemplified throughout his leadership.
University Leadership
Wilson joined MUST in 2020, where he quickly made his mark as a student leader. In his first year, he became the Vice President of the Agriculture Students’ Association. Under his leadership, the association organized its inaugural Agricultural Innovation Day, funded by UNESCO. This event has since become a cherished annual tradition at MUST, showcasing the importance of innovation in agriculture.

In his third year, Wilson ran for Guild President but faced defeat against HE Daisy. However, their mutual respect and recognition of each other’s abilities led to Wilson being appointed as her Minister for Finance. This collaboration allowed them to achieve significant milestones, demonstrating the power of unity and shared goals in student leadership.
According to the vice chancellor Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, Wilson Mugazhu’s election as the 35th UNSA President depicts  his dedication, resilience, and commitment to student welfare. His journey from a primary school student to a prominent leader at MUST illustrates the impact of passion and perseverance. As he embarks on this new chapter.
