Welcome home: FAST- Stars make a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor

Led by their Dean, Dr. Johnes Obungoloch, and their HoD, Eng: Kabanda the students included:  Mr. John Baptist Eshana Kauta, Mr. Victor Mugambe, Mr. Oscar Azookire, Ms. Juliet Alleluia, and Jovin Okello). Shared their experiences with the Vice Chancellor about the entire trip.

Through the dean, these requested more support from the university administration that mainly included paperwork to support their visa application, local and international per diem, and any other support rendered to see them succeed. Eng. Kabanda reported that the trip was partially funded by the SPE Ugandan chapter and that the support requested by the dean was all they need comfortably travel.

The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua thanked the team for standing out, yet they were the youngest in the chapter.  “This shows your lecturer is giving relevant and up-to-date mentorship to face the challenging economy, As the Vice Chancellor, I could not ask for more”, Prof. Obua added and said that facing a big stage builds confidence among the young generation, he further said that he was confident that in the US, the team will have a chance to meet other stars face a bigger audience which will increase their social networks notwithstanding self-confidence and Esteem. “those are the keep aspects you need to excel in today’s world.

He promised to support the team but also expressed concern about the budget cuts that was limiting the university from fully supporting such events that create visibility. He challenged the dean to lobby more with university partners “to beef” up the support from the university. The students received a pictorial moment with the Vice Chancellor.

About the SPE PetroBowl Competition

The PetroBowl® competition pitches SPE student chapter teams against each other in a series of quick-fire rounds, answering technical and non-technical industry-related questions. The contest has grown in size since its debut in 2002, and in 2015 was taken global with the introduction of six (06) regional qualifier contests. Regional qualifier competitions now take place in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, South America and Caribbean, Middle East, and North America SPE regions, and the top thirty-two (32) teams are invited to the PetroBowl® Championship.

Background

The SPE MUST Student Chapter was established on 15th June 2022, following a welcome letter dated 20th July 2022 by Kamel Ben-Naceur, the 2022 SPE International president. The student chapter provides the opportunity for SPE student members to engage in technology discussions at SPE events, network with industry professionals, and learn more about the industry. Each student chapter around the world is unique, with the autonomy to develop programs specific to the needs of its members and university.
