Visiting Professor, Noni MacDonald; Co-founder of MicroResearch

Dr. Noni MacDonald is a Professor Emerita of Paediatrics (Infectious Diseases) at Dalhousie University and the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a former Dean of Medicine. Her two current major areas of interest are; Vaccines including vaccine safety, hesitancy, demand, pain mitigation, education and policy locally, nationally, and globally, and MicroResearch (www.microresearch-international.ca), which she helped cofound in 2008 with Dr. Bob Bortolussi Professor Emeritus of Paediatrics at Dalhousie University and Professor Jerome Kabakyenga at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST).

MicroResearch is focused on decolonizing and democratizing research by building community-focused research capacity in developing countries and parts of Canada. Local healthcare professionals and community members are supported in finding local solutions for community health problems that fit the context, culture, and resources. She has published over 500 papers and has long been recognized in Canada and internationally, as an advocate for child and youth health and as a leader in pediatric infectious disease and global health. She is an elected Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences, and the Royal Society of Canada and is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia, and will be inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in 2024.
