Mbarara University of Science and Technology Pharmacy students have achieved a remarkable feat, winning the Excellence award in Digital Innovation for Universal Health Coverage at the 5th Pharmaceutical Symposium held at Kampala International University (KIU) in Ishaka from 1st to 3rd April 2025.
This three-day symposium brought together seven pharmacy teaching universities from across Uganda, including MUST, KIU, Makerere University (MUK), Victoria University, Busitema University, Gulu University, and Fins University.
The event was officiated by the Ministry of Health Commissioner of Pharmaceutical Services and Natural Medicines, alongside the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda, highlighting the significance of the event.
MUST’s winning innovation was an AI-powered system designed to mimic a doctor’s day-to-day functions, providing medical advice in emergency situations and offering crucial medical information to patients even without internet access.
This groundbreaking project stood out among the impressive innovations presented by over 500 students, including 45 from MUST.
