MUST welcomes the new librarian, Dr. Robert Stalone Buwule, who is experienced and a knowledgeable professional with a wealth of experience in library management. As the new librarian at MUST, Dr. Robert will be responsible for the management and operations of the library, as well as the development of library collections, services, and programs.
Dr. Robert expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “I am delighted to be joining the team at MUST. I am excited to use my experience in library management to support the university’s academic mission and vision while helping to ensure that our library resources remain up-to-date and accessible to our students and faculty.”
Prior to joining Mbarara University of Science and Technology, he had been the Head of the Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation Library, and the Library ICT section at Kyambogo University. He was also the Senior Records Officer in Hoima District Local Government and a Data Processor in the Electoral Commission. In 2019, Robert completed his Doctoral studies at the University of Kwazulu Natal in South Africa.
In 2022, he obtained post-doctoral training at Shih Chien University in Taiwan. His professional experience includes consultancy services to the Belgian Technical Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Sports, and Uganda National Council of Science and Technology. Dr. Robert has contributed to user-friendly libraries, eased information access, knowledge management, and Research and Development projects. He has published a number of journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers, and has supervised undergraduate Bachelors of Library and Information Science and Diploma in Library and Information Science students’ research projects.
He has served as an external examiner of information science master’s dissertations and Doctoral theses from the University of South Africa. He was a member of the executive committee of Uganda Library and Information Association from 2012 to 2016 and was on the organizing committee of the Standing Conference of Eastern, Central and Southern African Libraries 2018 conference.
He is part of the executive team of the International Association of Social Science Information Service and Technology Africa Chapter. His research focuses on Information Communication Technology for Development, information and information institutions management, Records and archival management, Facilitating Information Access, Disability Information Services, Innovative Information Services and Entrepreneurship.
