MUST Career Fair 2024: A bridge to the future

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted its inaugural Career Fair on August 28, 2024. The event, themed “Building Bridges to your Future ,” aimed to connect students with potential employers, mentors, and industry experts.

 

With a strong turnout of students, exhibitors, and distinguished guests, the career fair provided a valuable platform for networking, learning, and career exploration. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with representatives from various sectors, including technology, healthcare, finance, and more.

Through the Government of Uganda.  The event received strong support  Hon. Mwebesa Francis the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives representing the Vice President of Uganda as the Guest of Honor.

Key Highlights of the Career Fair:

  •  Inaugural Event: The MUST Career Fair 2024 marked a significant milestone for the university, offering students a much-needed avenue to bridge the gap between academia and the professional world.
  • Industry Leaders: Renowned industry experts shared their insights and experiences, providing valuable guidance to students on career paths and professional development.

  • Networking Opportunities: Students had the chance to connect with potential employers, build relationships, and explore internship and job opportunities.
  • Skill Development: Workshops and presentations focused on career development, CV writing, motivation, and innovation, equipping students with essential skills for success.
  • Government Support: The event received strong support from the government, with the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives representing the Vice President of Uganda as the Guest of Honor.

  • H.E Daisy Arinda Kankiriho: The Guild President emphasized the importance of the career fair in equipping students with the skills needed to navigate life after university.

  • Dr. Cassim Umba Tolo: The Director of Pharmbiotrac provided an overview of the fair and the project’s accomplishments at MUST.
  • Mr. Godfrey Ssebaana: The CEO of DTB Uganda highlighted the company’s commitment to developing skills for the future workforce.

  • Ms. Lameez Davids representing the education collaborative emphasized the need to appreciate Education as a  empowerment to  us as a way to overcome challenges, achieve our dreams, and contribute meaningfully to our communities. She pointed out the need to network as a key aspect in today’s world .

  • Mr. Ethan Musolini: The keynote speaker, also known as “The Merchant of Success,” urged students to identify their unique talents and actively promote themselves.

  • Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha: The executive director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation encouraged students to acquire skills that enable them to get their dream jobs and start their own enterprises. He emphasized  integrity, charter, and humility

Prof. Celestino Obua  the Vice Chancellor pointed out that  the  career fair offers a unique platform for you to connect with potential employers, explore various career paths, and gain valuable insights into the job market.  “I encourage all of you to take full advantage of this opportunity. Network with industry professionals, ask questions, and learn about the latest trends in your field of interest. Remember, your career is a personal journey, and it’s important to find a path that aligns with your passions and goals.” said  Celestino.

Hon.  Mwebesa Francis, Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives,  saluted the Vice Chancellor, Professor Celestino Obua, the MUST staff, faculty, and students, and the partners that supported MUST in this brilliant initiative, which is the first of its kind in history of MUST.

To the students present Hon Mwebesa said “I urge you to see this career fair as a golden opportunity to meet future employers and understand their expectations. I encourage you to attend the parallel sessions and explore the various offerings to find the best fit for your career aspirations

The MUST Career Fair 2024 was a resounding success, providing a valuable experience for students and contributing to the university’s mission of producing well-rounded graduates. As the university continues to grow and evolve, future career fairs are expected to play an even more vital role in connecting students with opportunities and shaping their professional journeys

The event later had a parallel session with four breakout rooms.
