MK and Team making a difference in Lira Hospital Regional Referral Hospital.

Dr. Musa Kayondo (PhD) together with a team of 9 medical persons organized a one-week medical camp in Lira Regional Referral Hospital for to address urogynecology challenges. This included fistula, Pelvic organ prolapse and other advanced gynecological disorders.

The team comprised of several medical personels from different departments as follows;

Dr. Onesimus Byamukama and Dr. Paul Kato who are both urogynecology fellows and Dr. Collins Agaba, a third-year resident of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The team from anesthesia department included Dr. Joshua Muhanguzi   and Dr. Jacob Gerald Nawezo who are both second year residents under the supervision of Dr. Racheal Alum Aguma. The physiotherapy department was represented by Mr. Amon Nuwahereza.

The team was supported by 2 theater nurses that is Sr. Paula Birungi and Agnes Tumukunde and Sr. Lillian Tusingwire the ward in charge.

The other members in the team included Mr. Maurice  Muhire the coordinator of the entire team and Ms. Christine Mukiza in charge of communication.

According to Dr. Musa the team was able to work on 40 patients of which 39 had urogynecology disorders (Genitourinary fistula, prolapse and perineal tears) and pelvis prolapse and 1 patient with neurogenic bladder who was treated by bladder training.

Dr. Musa was grateful to the sponsors of the camp and the entire team that took off their time to serve and support the cause. The camp would not have been possible without the support of Prof. Verena Geissbhler (st Claraspital, Switzerland) through the Else Kroner foundation from Germany who did a full board sponsorship for the patients and the entire team in the fight against urogynecology disorders. “Words cannot express my gratitude but all I can say may your sacrifice be rewarded more fold” said Dr. Kayondo Musa.
