Mbarara University of Science & Technology

Succeed We Must

MicroResearch Hybrid Forum

Hosted by: Kenya Medical Training College, Narok, Kenya and Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Mbarara, Uganda

Forum objectives:

  1. Provide an opportunity for MicroResearch PIs to present their research
  2. Encourage networking with other MicroResearchers from Africa
  3. Create a dialogue around the forum theme: “Integrating MicroResearch into health systems for better community outcomes”

In person and virtual components:

The Forum will be hosted in person concurrently at two sites – one in Narok, Kenya and one in Mbarara, Uganda. Additionally, there will be virtual sessions joining the two sites with virtual participants from other areas of Africa and from Canada via Zoom.

 In person small group discussions:

Morning sessions will begin with small group discussions at each of the African sites. Small groups of six to eight participants will discuss a series of pre-determined questions and discussion points based around the day’s themes. Experts in the field will be matched with each of the groups and will help lead the conversation. Each of the groups will share their thoughts and feedback using an online survey tool and briefly report in the afternoon.

 Keynote presentations:

The afternoon sessions will feature keynote speakers who will present on topics related to the Forum theme and sub-themes. These talks will be broadcasted virtually, connecting the two Forum sites, as well as providing an opportunity for others to join.

 Participant MicroResearch project presentations:

The MR Forum will feature pre-recorded presentations from selected recent MR project teams, including both completed projects and projects that are currently underway or under review.

Panel discussions:

Each day will conclude with panel discussions, where experts from different sites discuss the day’s theme in relation to the keynote presentation, project presentations, and small group discussion summaries. The panel will be moderated by a chair, but the audience will also have an opportunity to contribute to the discussion through chat entries.

Forum themes:

  • Integrating MicroResearch into health systems for better community outcomes
    • Research in primary healthcare and disease prevention to promote community well-being (October 16)
    • Incorporating research into local health education using MicroResearch principles (October 17)

Forum attendees/guests:

The forum will also include guests from other areas of Africa and Canada who have preregistered through MR or their local site organizer. Although they may not be presenting or participating as a panelist, they can respond to survey questionnaires and add to the chat comments. Certificates of attendance will be given to attendees who have participated and request one.
