Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a Public University in Uganda located in Mbarara City, Western Uganda 7kms on Mbarara- Bushenyi road.

Her vision is to be center of Academic and Professional Excellence in Science and Technology. In order to achieve this vision, MUST is building a team of highly qualified and skilled persons who can ably contribute to providing quality and relevant education at the national and international levels with particular emphasis on science and technology and its application to community development.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill vacant positions that exist in Mbarara University of Science and Technology. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The University Librarian shall be the Head of the University Library. He/she shall be responsible for the development, control, management and coordination of all library and information services of the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Providing leadership and strategic direction to the University Library by supporting the education, research and community engagement functions of the University.
  2. Developing, managing, implementing and communicating the Library’s strategic plan as aligned to the University’s strategic plan.
  3. Coordinating the acquisition and proper maintenance of books, serial publications, electronic media resources, as well as other academic publications, equipment and information technology.
  4. Developing and implementing an effective knowledge organization system in order to ensure rapid access and retrieval of information.
  5. Preparing and managing annual budgets for the University Library.
  6. Developing and promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation and continual improvement within the Library.
  7. Working constructively with key university stakeholders including student organizations to deliver Library services to all client groups.
  8. Representing the Library in academic and professional activities within and external to the University and monitor national and international trends in Library services.
  9. Ensuring compliance with internal and external accountabilities, policies and procedures of the University, including legislative and other regulatory requirements
  10. Supervising and evaluating the performance of library staff against set targets and taking corrective action whenever performance improvement is required.
  11. Liaising with other information providing Departments such as Information Technology Department, to ensure that information to the users is provided in a coordinated manner.
  12. Planning for Library Staff development in collaboration with the Director, Human Resources and keep Staff abreast of the developments in their profession.
  13. Ensuring the creation and maintenance of Library databases to enable the University community has easy access to the University’s Information Resources.
  14. Undertaking any other related duties, as may be necessary to ensure the provision of efficient and effective Library and Information services in the University.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. A PhD Degree in Library and Information Science.
  2. A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or Information Systems.
  3. A Bachelors’ Degree in Library and Information Science or Information Systems from a recognized university.
  4. A minimum of three (3) scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals where applicant is the first author.
  5. A minimum of twelve (12) years working experience in Library Information systems, three (3) of which must be at senior level of management in an Institution offering library services.
  6. Must not be above 50 years at the time of application.

 

Nursing Officer Grade II

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Nursing Officer   shall be resident at Kihumuro Campus and shall be responsible for providing nursing care, nursing assessment, maintenance and improvement of the health of students as well as early detection and correction of health problems, including appropriate referrals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Receiving patients, registering admissions and making appropriate
  2. Providing First Aid to students and staff.
  3. Providing treatment to patients.
  4. Managing and isolating patients appropriately who may have an infectious disease.
  5. Notifying the local public health authorities about patients with contagious diseases for the purpose of minimizing infection spread and complying with legal requirements
  6. Providing counseling services to students.
  7. Maintaining a clean and healthy environment for patients.
  8. Participating in bedside nursing procedures.
  9. Giving health education talks in regard to proper and recommended diet practices
  10. Imparting knowledge and skills to health support staff.
  11. Compiling daily and monthly reports.
  12. Preparation and maintaining patient health records.
  13. Managing and accounting for allocated resources.
  14. Keeping account of stock and reordering as required within the budget.
  15. Supervising and appraising staff.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
  2. Must be registered and licensed with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC).
  3. Should be between 25 to 35 years of age.

 

Legal Clerk

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Legal Clerk will provide legal clerical support to the Legal Office of the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Filing and serving of any legal related correspondences/court documents to law firms, external counsel, courts of law, or any other office as instructed.
  2. Maintaining of an organized filing system in the Legal Office.
  3. Creating, maintaining, and updating the case register for the Legal Office.
  4. Collecting, delivering, and filing documents to relevant entities such as Courts, Registries, third parties, offices, and other government authorities for certification or other processes.
  5. Liaising with, and pursuing action from government offices (Lands Registry, Solicitor General, etc.) as instructed.
  6. Keeping up-to-date with all current and applicable registry legislation.
  7. Making payments on behalf of MUST Advocates for case-related transactions.
  8. Maintaining Advocate’s diaries, scheduling court cases, filing and serving documents as appropriate.
  9. Obtaining annual Law Council approval of Chambers Certification for the Legal Unit, to ensure compliance with regulations.
  10. Obtaining annual renewals of MUST Advocates’ practicing certificates from the High Court to ensure regulatory compliance.
  11. Coordinating meetings with relevant parties, Advocates and stakeholders as instructed.
  12. Providing translation and other case-related support.
  13. Providing Office Support and performing administrative duties.
  14. Performing any other role necessary for the fulfillment of all the above roles.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. A Diploma in Law from a recognized institution.
  2. License as a Process Server or Process server certificate.
  3. At least three years working experience as a paralegal, legal clerk or legal assistant in a reputable law firm or organization with knowledge and exposure to court processes and systems of various government registries
  4. Good knowledge of Court and registry procedures.
  5. Knowledge of Laws of Uganda.
  6. Document management skills.
  7. Report writing and computer skills in MS Word, Outlook and Excel programmes.
  8. Should be between 25 – 35 years of age.
  9. Agile, self-driven and a good team player.

  4. Should be between 25 – 35 years of age.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of the Gross Anatomy Laboratory.
  2. Participating in preparation of gross anatomy specimens.
  3. Maintaining gross anatomy specimens.
  4. Organizing the laboratory and maintaining equipment functionality.
  5. Preparing laboratory exercises in line with the course syllabus and lectures.
  6. Setting up laboratory specimens, equipment and the anatomy tables
    for scheduled laboratory sessions, practical exams, and events.
  7. Demonstrations of the anatomy tables, models, human or animal specimens during lab, events, and other activities.
  8. Arranging and displaying anatomical specimens to students for practical sessions.
  9. Prepare laboratory practical exams.
  10. Ensuring proper handling and care of laboratory chemicals and reagents.
  11. Ensuring proper waste disposal of laboratory specimens, chemicals and reagents.
  12. Any other duties that may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives and learning outcomes.
