Inter faculty Collaborations

The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology ,Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering together with the the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Nursing and Department of Pediatrics have just launched a project, Integrating Basic skills in Biomedical-Engineering into Pediatric-Nursing at Mbarara-Regional-Referral- Hospital, Uganda.
The major aim of this project is to Integrate Basic skills in Biomedical Engineering into pediatric nursing at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital to empower pediatric nurses to carry out basic troubleshooting of non functioning medical devices.
–      This will be achieved through;
–      (i) Developing training manuals and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the pediatric medical devices in the pediatric ward,
–      (ii) Training pediatric nurses on how to take care and troubleshoot non functioning pediatric medical devices,
–      (iii) Develop a process for adverse incidence reporting when a malfunctioning medical device such as a monitor gives false information to the nurses.
–      (iv) Install tags on the medical devices. These tags will be used to refer to that equipment’s training/technical manuals and SOPs which will be stored in an easily accessible location for use by any nurse/biomedical the technician as reference material for those specific devices.
We congratulate the two Faculties upon this collaboration and pray the set objectives may be achieved
