Shaping the future: FAST Engineering stars honored by Engineers Registration Board

March 4, 2026 in a prestigious ceremony celebrating the intersection of academic brilliance and professional potential, the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) has officially recognized and awarded two of Mbarara University of Science and Technology’s (MUST) finest.

Both Asiimwe Amon and Amoding Mercy have been named the Best Engineering Students of 2025. Emerging from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, these exceptional scholars have set a new benchmark for excellence, both graduating with First Class Honours and an identical, stellar CGPA of 4.60.

Celebrating a Trailblazer: Eng: Amoding Mercy

As we enter March a month globally dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and girls—Amoding Mercy’s recognition carries a special resonance. In a field historically dominated by men, Mercy has not only competed; she has led.

By standing tall among her peers and securing the top spot in her discipline, she proves that for the modern female engineer, the sky is no longer the limit it is merely the starting point. Her success is a clarion call to every young girl in Uganda with a passion for science: your seat at the table is earned through your brilliance.

A Shining Star: Eng: Asiimwe Amon

Alongside her is Asiimwe Amon, a “shining star” whose academic journey has been defined by consistency and technical mastery. To maintain a 4.60 CGPA in the rigorous field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering requires more than just intelligence; it requires a level of discipline and resilience that defines the MUST spirit.

Together, Amon and Mercy represent the pinnacle of intellectual rigor and a steadfast commitment to excellence.

A Word from the Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, expressed immense pride in the duo’s achievements, linking their success to the university’s core identity.

“To Amon and Mercy, you are the living embodiment of our DNA. Your journey from our lecture halls to this national recognition by the ERB is a testament to what happens when talent meets tireless work.

In the words of Theodore von Kármán, ‘Scientists study the world as it is; engineers create the world that never has been.’ As you step out to shape Uganda’s infrastructure and technological landscape, remember that you carry the integrity and competence of MUST with you. You have proven that regardless of the challenges, Succeed We Must!

The Path Ahead

These young engineers now join the professional ranks at a time when Uganda’s need for home-grown innovation is at an all-time high. With their foundation in technical competence and their eyes on the future, the world does not just await them it prepares to be redesigned by them.
