MUST formally installs Dr. Robert Bitariho as DVC (F&A)

Mbarara University of Science and Technology has officially inaugurated Dr. Robert Bitariho, an associate professor of environment and natural resource management as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration.

Yesterday he got his assignment of duty by the Vice Chancellor to which he consented. Today was hand over of office and instruments which he also accepted. 

During the handover ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor formally welcomed Dr. Bitariho highlighting that this transition comes at a critical time of growth for the University, requiring a leader who can effectively oversee the institution’s financial stability and administrative excellence.

Honoring continuity and the legacy of service

The ceremony served as an occasion to honor the distinguished service of the predecessor,Assoc. Prof. Charles Tushabomwe Kazooba, whose successful tenure concluded on October 15, 2025. The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the interim management team comprising the Vice-Chancellor, the University Secretary, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs who jointly managed the portfolio to ensure operational continuity.  

The official transfer of the instruments of power

In a significant symbolic and practical exercise, Dr. Bitariho was officially presented with the instruments of power and the essential tools required for his new office. This included the University Laws and Statutes (Act 62), which serve as the legal guiding framework for his duties, and a detailed handover report outlining ongoing projects and pending matters.

To facilitate his immediate commencement of duties, he was also handed the physical assets of the office, including the office keys, official vehicle, and fuel card. The Vice-Chancellor reminded the incoming DVC F & A that these tools are entrusted to him to fulfill the University’s mission of providing quality science and technology education.

Upon assuming his seat, Prof. Bitariho delivered his acceptance speech, expressing his  honor and readiness to serve the University. He identified the digitalization of MUST as his primary flagship project for his five-year term, envisioning a more efficient, tech-driven institution. “I am personally very, very passionate about delivery,” Prof. Bitariho stated, emphasizing his drive to create unique and lasting impacts. He pledged his unreserved loyalty to the University Council and the Vice-Chancellor, promising to work diligently to meet the expectations of both management and staff through transparency and innovation.

The transition was witnessed by some members of the University top management including the University Secretary, the Chief Human Resource Officer, and the Legal Officer all pledging their full cooperation.

The University Secretary noted that Dr. Bitariho is a familiar and respected member of the MUST community, which will facilitate seamless teamwork. Management leaders emphasized the importance of aligning staff expectations with institutional realities, particularly as the university embarks on new infrastructure projects. The ceremony concluded with a shared commitment to elevate the ICT department into a robust administrative pillar, ensuring that the university remains resilient and future-oriented in its pursuit of excellence.
