 Top choice: Assoc. Prof. Robert Bitariho assignment Duty as DVC F&A

Following a rigorous search and evaluation process, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has officially ushered in a new chapter of administrative leadership. Today, January 6, 2026, Associate Professor Robert Bitariho was formally assigned duty by the Vice chancellor Prof Pauline Byakika- Kibwika as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration (DVC F&A).

The journey began with a competitive field of four distinguished candidates, each vying to steer the financial and administrative heart of the university. The process reached its “final lap” on December 17, 2025, during a public presentation session.

The Search Committee, chaired by Ms. Agatha Achom Mutenyo, was lauded for maintaining a transparent and equitable environment, giving each candidate an equal opportunity to defend their vision and motive for seeking the position. After a thorough review by the University Senate and approval by the University Council, Prof. Bitariho emerged as the successful candidate to take on this vital role.

The Handover Ceremony

In a ceremony held at the university today, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika Kibwika, officially handed over the office to Prof. Bitariho. The transition was marked by a spirit of shared purpose and a commitment to the university’s mission of “Succeed We Must.”

In his inaugural remarks, Associate Prof. Bitariho expressed his profound gratitude to the university community and the search committee for their trust. He outlined a leadership style defined by accessibility and a deep-rooted connection to the classroom.

“I pledge an open-door policy as a leader. My commitment is to serve this institution with transparency and to support our collective growth,” Prof. Bitariho stated.

  • Biology Department Support: He specifically committed to remaining available to the Biology Department, ensuring his expertise continues to benefit students through supervision and mentorship.
  • Operational Excellence: A focus on streamlining finance and administration to better serve the staff and student body.

As Associate Professor Bitariho begins his tenure, there is a palpable sense of optimism regarding the future of MUST’s financial and administrative frameworks.
