Today October 15,2025, Mbarara University of Science and Technology honored Associate Professor Charles Tushabomwe -Kazooba, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, as he handed over his instruments of office following 35 remarkable years of service to the institution. Associate Professor Kazooba’s tenure saw him progress from University Bursar and Lecturer to holding the DVC, F & A position for the last ten years, serving under the reigns of both Prof. Celestino Obua and the current Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika.
Vice Chancellor’s Tribute and Appreciation
In her remarks Professor. Pauline Byakika Kibwika expressed profound gratitude for Prof. Kazooba’s long and faithful service to the University and the nation.
“Your mentorship and leadership have rolled out through the products you have led and those you have mentored. We shall forever be indebted to your service,” Professor. Pauline, the Vice Chancellor stated. She announced that the university would organize a formal farewell to properly thank him for his great service. Prof. Pauline also made a personal plea, asking him to “keep your doors open for us for consultation as a senior,” acknowledging his valuable guidance since she assumed the VC position a year ago.
Tributes from University Management
The handover ceremony was witnessed by key members of the University Top Management Committee, who shared heartfelt tributes:
- Prinari Behangana, Chief HR Officer, defined Prof. Kazooba as a person who “stays calm in the storm.” He commended him for being a good time manager, committed to deadlines, and a resilient leader.
- Timothy Mugumya (Esq.) Principal Legal Advisor, echoed the sentiment, defining Prof. Kazooba as an advocate for teamwork. He shared a memorable metaphor: “Do not destroy what others have built, just add a brick,” adding that he is also a patient person.
- Fridah Namumpa, representing the University Secretary, defined Prof. Kazooba as a father figure to many, a great mentor, teacher, and someone who has always stood by his word.
Prof. Kazooba’s Legacy and Farewell

In his farewell address, Prof. Kazooba expressed immense pride in serving Mbarara University. He shared that one of his greatest memories was being the first person to have an office at the Kihumuro Campus, marking the start of its subsequent development. He extended his gratitude to both Prof. Obua and Prof. Pauline for their guidance throughout his tenure.
Prof. Kazooba takes pride in establishing several foundational structures that now govern the university’s efficiency, including the University Financial Management Meetings, the Strategic Planning Team, the Human Resource Manual, and the University Organogram. He noted that MUST is currently doing well with financial management and urged the team to read his comprehensive report for detailed guidance and recommendations.
The ceremony concluded with the official handover of instruments of power to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika. These included his final report, office keys, car keys, the official stamp, and the academic gown, formally closing an illustrious chapter in the history of MUST.
