Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) recently concluded a vital refresher training program for its office attendants, spearheaded by the Human Resources Department. According to Ms. Carol Nsemereirwe, the Principal Human Resources Officer, the training’s primary objective was to equip staff with essential skills, methods, and processes to enhance their job performance. This initiative was based on the understanding that existing skills can become outdated due to technological advancements and the natural tendency for information to be forgotten.

The training set clear goals for its participants. By the end of the program, office attendants were expected to:
- Appreciate the inherent value and importance of their roles within the university.
- Effectively leverage communication skills for their personal benefit and the betterment of the university.
- Develop robust interpersonal skills to foster greater teamwork and a stronger team spirit.
- Improve their ability to manage both their own time and their supervisor’s time more effectively.

The day’s facilitator was Mr. Muhanguzi Robert, the Academic Registrar of Ankole University. Mr. Muhanguzi placed significant emphasis on the critical role of communication, both with senior colleagues and junior staff. He also highlighted the importance of recognizing that everyone is valuable in their respective capacities and underscored the crucial need for teamwork.

A valuable segment of the training included a question and answer session, providing participants with an opportunity to seek clarification and engage directly with the facilitator on topics discussed.

The entire event was seamlessly coordinated by Jovita Tukamushaba, Assistant Administrative Secretary. This refresher training underscores MUST’s commitment to continuous professional development and ensuring its staff remains highly skilled and effective in a dynamic work environment.
