Today January 21,2025, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has officially received the Faculty of Computing and Informatics building from National Enterprise Corporation (NEC Works & Engineering Ltd). This milestone reflects our vision of being a center of academic and professional excellence in science and technology. Led by Eng. Brian Buhanda, the General Manager of NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd, a brief before the tour was conducted, with safety gear worn in preparation for the building tour. Brian thanked MUST for choosing to collaborate with them and requested the university administration to maintain the building in good condition to ensure it serves its purpose effectively for years to come.

He added that the successful completion of this building is a depiction of effective teamwork between NEC, the university administration, and the Oubuntu Company, which played a supervisory role. “We appreciate the trust and support we received from all parties involved.”
The project was supervised by Oubuntu Construction Limited, represented by Arch. Shalotte Nyangoma, who expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the supervising architectural company for the project. “We are proud to have contributed to the successful completion of this building and believe it will serve the university community well for years to come. We would like to commend the entire construction team for their hard work and dedication throughout the project.”

On behalf of MUST, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, the Vice Chancellor, expressed her sincere gratitude to the Government of Uganda for their unwavering support. “Infrastructure development is key in helping us attain our goals as a university. We pledge to optimize this.” Like Oliver Twist, Prof. Byakika requested the government to also support other Faculties in the university due to the increasing numbers. She pointed out the Faculty of Medicine, which has no proper infrastructure, along with the Faculty of Science and others. She requested the government for more support. She thanked NEC Construction for their excellent work and patience throughout this project. “I don’t take today for granted; it is a big milestone, and we appreciate you so much.” She acknowledged the valuable contributions of the supervisors from Oubuntu Construction. In a special way, Pauline thanked the University Secretary, Mr. Vincent Kwatampora Kansiime, for his constant engagement with NEC, and University Engineer Patrick Mujunansi for his close collaboration with the NEC team. “We commend the entire university administration for their dedication to this project.”
