Ground Broken for Library & Labs Construction @ Kihumuro

On Saturday 7th May 2016, the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Sports, Hon. Maj (Rtd) Jessica Rose Alupo Epel presided over a ground breaking ceremony for the construction works of a library and laboratories at the university's Kihumuro Campus.

This is part of support to the tune of USD 12.5 million, the university has recieved through a loan secured by the Government of Uganda from the African Development Bank under the Higher Education, Science and Technology (HEST) Project.

Dr. Nicholas Kamara is new Chair of Convocation

The Convocation of Mbarara University of Science and Technology recently held a handover ceremony that saw a new executive led by Dr. Nicholas Kamara take up the reigns of the association as the Chairperson. Dr. Kamara, who was recently elected at a Conovocation General Assembly, replaces Dr. Francis Banya who has been the chairperson since 2010.

Biomedical Engineering Program Receives Equipment

The university's proposed Biomedical Engineering program recently received equipment to support its teaching and learning processes.

The donation was recieved under the auspices of the International Outreach Program for Uganda and the McMaster-Mbarara Medical Exchange Program. The equipment was officially handed over to the Deputy Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs, Prof. Nixon Kamukama by the Mr. John Ngole. Also present was the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST), Ms. Theodora Twongyirwe Mondo.

MUST & Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery sign MOU

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery (JSNM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The new collaboration will enable JSNM to offer a 3 year weekend program of the Bachelors of Nursing Sciences together with MUST.

JSNM was founded in 1954 as a training institution for nurse orderlies and in 1960 it began the formal training of nurses at the level of Enrolled Nurses. To date it boasts of running:

Daily Monitor Career Fair @ MUST

The Daily Monitor newspaper held its 3rd Career Fair at Mbarara University of Science and Technology on Friday 11th March 2016. The event under the theme "Innovate or Die" introduced students to a wide range of successful life experiences and motivation from key speakers who included James Tumusiime, the founder of Fountain Publishers and Igongo Cultural Centre/Hotel; Mr. Apollo Balya, the proprietor of Balya Stint Hardware; Stephen Bazirake, the pioneer Academic Registrar of MUST and Ethan Musolini, a reknown motivational speaker and success coach.

Call for Young Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Educators

The International Centre of Reproductive Health (ICRH) at Ghent University and the RHEA Centre of Expertise, Diversity and Intersectionality, Free University of Brussels with the Institute of Interdisciplinary Training and Research (IITR) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology and the institute of Ethics and Development Studies, Uganda Martyrs University Uganda are together running a research project titled  “Mitigating adverse sexual and reproductive health outcomes through a comprehensive primary school sexuality education program in South-Wes

MUST Selected as East and Southern Africa Higher Education Centre of Excellence

The MUST team members included Dr. Cassim Tolo, Dr. Patrick Ogwang Engeu, Eng. Anke Weisheit and Prof. Celestino Obua.

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is among 23 research centres in East and Southern Africa that have been earmarked for funding under a World Bank funded initiative to promote excellence. The centres have been conditionally selected under the US$140 million Eastern and Southern Africa Higher Education Centers of Excellence Project (ACE II).

MUST Staff win SIDA Masters and PhD Scholarships

It was a joyous morning on Wednesday 10th February when staff MUST received 23 Masters and 17 PhD scholarships from the Swedish Government through the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). This was at a scholarship award ceremony held at Makerere University and presided over by the Swedish Ambassador to Uganda His Excellency Urban Andersson.
