21st Graduation

Mbarara University of Science and Technology held its 21st Graduation Ceremony on 31st January 2015 at the university's Kihumuro Main Campus Grounds.

The function was presided over by the Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mugyenyi and attended by several notable guests including the Minsiter of Education and Sports, Hon. Maj (Rtd) Jessica Alupo.

MUST represents at Eastern Africa University Games

Mbarara University of Science and Technology was effectively represented at the 9th edition of the Eastern Africa University Games hosted by the Uganda Christian University from 15th to 22nd of December 2014. The university's contingent consisted of 20 woman and 40 men in the games that saw a total of 47 universities taking part, 19 from Uganda, 17 from Kenya, 9 from Tanzania and 2 from Rwanda.

MUST Scientists Pioneer Research to Reduce Maternal Death

Scientists at Mbarara University of Science and Technology have pioneered a ground breaking research about a drug that will reduce maternal death.

The research is entitled 'Sublingual Misoprostol versus Intramuscular Oxytocin for Prevention of Postpartum Haemorrhage in Uganda: A Double-Blind Randomized Non-Inferirority Trial and was led by Esther Cathyln Atukunda, of the Pharmacology Department together with Dr. Mark J. Siedner, from Massechussettes General Hospital/ Havard Medical School, Prof. Celestino Obua, the Vice Chancellor, MUST.

MUST Chancellor Wins TWAS Regional Science Award

The Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Prof. Peter Mugyenyi is the winner of the 2014 Regional Prize for Science Diplomacy for the Sub-saharan African Region.

Prof. Mugyenyi is acclaimed for his fight against the pharmaceutical industry to bring inexpensive antiretroviral drugs to Africa. He was also a key consultant in the then United States President George W. Bush’s initiative “President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief” (PEPFAR), a program that has funded the life-saving anti-retroviral treatments for Africans suffering from HIV/AIDS.

MUST holds 10th Annual Research Conference

Mbarara University of Science and Technology held its 10th Annual Research Dissemination Conference at a colorful event held at the Lake View Hotel, Mbarara on 10th December 2014. The conference was organised by the university's Faculty of Science under the theme '25 years of Innovative Research for Community Transformation and Sustainability' and was one of the key activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the university.

MUST-MIT SANA course in Health Informatics

In 2012, the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) established a partnership with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a goal to foster global collaboration to solve real-world problems and facilitate the opportunity to showcase exciting innovative projects around the world. Every year close to 50 students complete an onsite coupled with online and comprehensive course in designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating Health information systems for the developing world. 

CEMAS launched @ MUST

The Computerised Education Management and Accounting System (CEMAS) project  for Ugandan Public Universities kicked off on Monday 17th November 2014 in a ceremonial launch ceremony held at the Mbarara University of Science and Technology IITR Resource Centre.

The Government of Uganda under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development shall on Monday 17th November 2014 kick off the implementation of the The Uganda Computerised Education Management and Accounting System (CEMAS) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST)
 
MUST has been chosen, out of the 8 Public Universities and Self Accounting Tertiary Institutions (PUSATIs), as the pilot implementation university for the system which shall ultimately be implemented in all the 8 PUSATIs.
 

MUST marks Silver Jubilee

Mbarara University of Science and Technology marked 25 years of existence on 29th October 2014 at a Silver Jubilee celebration held at the university’s Kihumuro campus and presided over by H.E Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda.
