About Software Incubation & Innovations Unit
The Software incubation and Innovation Unit (SIIU) was initiated in 2013 by the Faculty of Computing and Informatics with a mandate to:
- Develop in-house software for Mbarara University of Science and Technology
- Develop commercial software for sale to organizations
- Nurture software innovations developed by students at the faculty.
The SIIU has had major successes and achievements in development of in-house software that include:
- Development of Student Academic Records and Management Systems (SARMS) that was actively in use by the university from 2008-2016. SARMS is still in active use as a legacy system for records archived during that period.
- Development of the MUST timetabling system which the academic registrar department uses for timetabling (2016-todate)
- Development of the MUST Asset Management System used by university administrators to manage the university assets (2018-todate)
- Development of the Staff ID generation system used by the academic registrar department (2020- todate) to generate staff IDS.
