Dr. Clementia Neema Murembe

Neema’s Biosketch 

Dr. Clementia Murembe Neema is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies (FIS) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), heading the department of Human Development and Relational Sciences. She is a social-anthropologist and ethnographic researcher, an approach she used to collect qualitative data for her PhD study. She is a lecturer of Gender and Development, focusing on anthropology and evolution of gender; Gender mainstreaming; and Political Economy of Women Healthcare services. She is the lead person of a team that drafted (MUST) Gender Policy and Ant-Sexual Harassment Policy. Clementia is an African feminist exploring Gender in the African cultural perspectives and how cultural context influence Sexual Relations and Rights in a given society. Clementia was a co-investigator of a VLIROUS Grant given study, South Initiatives (2018 to 2019), Sexual and Gender-based Violence against Post genocide Rwandan Refugees in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, South Western Uganda: Addressing gaps in Knowledge and responses. Additionally, Clementia is an inspirational speaker on Family Relations and Development through Vision Radio Phone-in Program listened to in the wider South Western part of Uganda. Clementia serves on several Catholic Church organizations, including; Women’s desk, Social Communication Commission of Uganda Episcopal Conference and Chaired the Family Commission of Mbarara Arch-diocese Synod (2019).

1986-1994:      Grade V Teacher at Maryhill High School, P.O.  Box     380,    Mbarara. Uganda.

1999:     Appointed Lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology in the Faculty of Development Studies, (as a Political Economist), now Faculty of Inter-disciplinary Studies (FIS).

Service to the Community outside the University Work

• Give Motivational/professional Radio Talk Shows about Gender issues, Family Relations and Development in Africa on (i)Vision-Radio (ii) Radio Maria, listened to in the Southern & Western Region of Uganda
• A member of S.W Uganda Regional Development Initiative Steering Committee, which is developing  Regional Strategic and Investment Plans  (2019-2020)
• Chaired the Family commission of the Mbarara Arch-diocese synod.
