On Monday, January 12, 2026, the University Top Management Committee, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, conducted an extensive inspection of ongoing construction and renovation works across the University premises.
Guided by the Estates and Works team, led by University Engineer Achilles Byabashaija, the tour aimed to assess the progress of key projects, identify infrastructure gaps, and ensure that the University’s growth aligns with the needs of the student body and staff.
The tour commenced with a briefing from Eng. Byabashaija, who provided insights into the current projects and invited feedback from the management team. The inspection covered several vital areas, including the states and works block, and parking lot, the students’ lounge at the FCI building, FAST building, the student hostels, the students dining, the botanical garden, the bamboo forest, proposed site for the sports facility, the University library, and the campus-wide solar arena which pumps water to the the reservoir.
Solving the water challenge: The highlight of the tour was the inspection of the new water reservoir currently under construction. For some time, water supply has been a challenge for the MUST community. To address this, the University is constructing a reservoir with a capacity of 150,000 litres at the hilltop in Kihumuro Main campus to supplement the existing 30,000 litres reservoir. According to Eng. Achilles this can take MUST for 6 days in case National water outages.
This project is a significant milestone in ensuring a steady and reliable water supply for students and staff, directly improving the quality of life on campus.
City Campus
The management team also visited the City Campus, where they inspected:
- Residential Renovations: Extensive work on the Ladies’ and Gents’ flats to provide better living conditions.
- Road reconstruction: The vital stretch from the eastern gate to the Cyclone Square, passing through the hostels, is undergoing reconstruction to improve accessibility.
- The renovated former FCI block, too is ready for use by the new occupants
