Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery

The Master of Medicine in Neurosurgery (MMed Neurosurgery) is a specialized, typically 6-year postgraduate residency program that trains medical officers into specialized neurosurgeons. Programs focus on operative skills for treating conditions like brain tumors, spinal injuries, and trauma. It involves rigorous clinical rotation, research, and coursework.

Entry Requirements

  1. To be admitted to the postgraduate studies to the Master of medicine in Neurosurgery, the candidate must fulfill the conditions as stated in the internal regulations of the training of Master of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the MUST. Namely;
      • MBChB from a recognized university or its equivalent;
      • Minimum CGPA- 3.5
      • Registered with relevant medical licensing body in the candidate’s country
      • Certificate of good standing from the medical licensing body
      • Two Referees (One academic, one professional)
      • Must have worked for at least 1 year after the first registration, preferably in a hospital setting offering Surgical Services.
      • Having worked in a neurosurgical center is an added advantage
  2. The director of graduate and research training (DGRT) and the Department of Surgery in
    consultation with the division of Neurosurgery determines each year the number of admissible
    candidates and the selection modalities in function of available places.
  3. The candidate must be able to understand teachings in English as required by MUST and must
    provide a certificate of proficiency in English.
  4. The candidate must pass a pre-entry written and oral exam offered by the Division of
    Neurosurgery either Physically or online. The University in consultation with the Division
    reserves the right to admission.
  5. The candidate must be below or 40 years of age.
  6. The program will cater for credit exemption for Master of Medicine General Surgery graduates
    MCS or FCS-Neurosurgery from a recognized training institution.
