Program Description

 The Bachelor of Science in Planning and Community Development (BSc.PCD) is accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The program is premised on an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the perspectives and ideas of multiple disciplines to build effective community development practitioners. The program enables students to acquire planning skills that demonstrate inclusive thinking and techniques of integration in order to move towards an interdisciplinary approach to decision making and problem solving for community development. The program provides a basis for students to understand community needs from a policy legacy, theoretical and conceptual debates in the field of planning and community development.

The program provides a basis for students to understand community needs from a policy perspective and be able to link theoretical analysis with conceptual debates in the field of planning and community development. By the end of the program students are expected to have  acquired a diverse range of skills in areas such as theory application, community organizing, finance, planning and management.

The Bachelor of Science in Planning and Community Development prepares students and future community development practitioners, and scholars to take on development challenges and struggles facing rural and urban areas in Uganda. The program prepares students for a high level of entry into community development and planning, policy and development work positions in a range of government and non-government agencies. The students are also prepared to work with public administration, social services, consultancy, advocacy, academia, and other areas.

The program structure enables students to graduate with a specialized focus. In the third year students focus their studies on either of the following specializations:

  1. Sustainable Rural Development
  2. Urban Policy, Governance and Development
  3. Civil Society and Service Delivery
