Mbarara University of Science and Technology recently convened a crucial meeting to discuss and refine its strategic plan. The event, led by Assoc. Prof. Charles Tushabomwe-Kazooba, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration, together with the University Planning Unit and Administration, brought together key stakeholders from across the university to gain proper insights for effective planning, budgeting, and analysis.


Key Objectives and National Alignment
Representing the Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Kazooba outlined the primary objectives of the meeting, emphasizing the importance of aligning the university’s strategic plan with national development priorities. A keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Kasule Samuel, a senior planner from the National Planning Authority, who provided valuable insights on linking the university’s strategic goals with the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV) and the National Strategic Plan Framework. This crucial alignment ensures that the university’s endeavors contribute meaningfully to the broader national development agenda.
The event was moderated by Mr. Mugisha Jim from the finance department, while Ms. Robina Nakakeeto, the University Planner, shared key information in relation to the NDP framework and the university, with the aim of developing a robust and comprehensive plan.


Diverse Perspectives and Presentations
The meeting featured a diverse range of presentations from key stakeholders, including:
Academic Leaders: Deans, directors, and unit heads from various faculties and institutes shared their perspectives and strategic plans for their respective departments. Expert feedback was provided on how best to improve their strategic plans.





Central Administration: Representatives from key administrative departments, such as Estates and Works, Computing Services, Student Welfare and Sports, Academic Affairs, and Human Resources, presented their plans and contributions to the overall university strategy.


A Collaborative Approach
The constructive meeting fostered a collaborative environment where diverse perspectives were shared and discussed. This collaborative approach is crucial for developing a comprehensive and effective strategic plan that addresses the unique challenges and opportunities facing Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
A wrap-up was provided by the University Economist, Mr. Charles Mwebaze highlighting the staff and faculty’s expectations for the next plans presented. Mr. Felix Magyezi, the university Bursar, gave the closing remarks on behalf of management. He stated that the outcomes of this meeting will be instrumental in shaping the university’s future direction. The strategic plan will serve as a roadmap for achieving excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, while contributing to the socioeconomic development of Uganda.
