Cuba has had a close partnership with Mbarara University of Sci9ence and Technology since its inception in 1989. Overcoming several setup challenges the founding Vice Chancellor Prof. Fredrick I.B Kayanja, in collaboration with four Cuban professors, started the pioneer Faculty of Medicine (FOM) opening its gates to the first 43 students admitted to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) program. Since then, MUST has hosted Cuban Professors in various Departments like Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ear Norse and Throat, and Physiotherapy under FOM that have supported teaching and research. This partnership is based upon the memorandum of understanding between the Government of Uganda and Cuba.
