Mbarara University of Science and Technology has officially flagged off its largest-ever delegation of student-athletes to compete in the 20th edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games.
The ceremony, held earlier today was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika, and the University Secretary, Mr. Vincent Kwatampora.
A historic milestone for MUST Sports
This year’s competition marks a significant milestone for the University, as MUST has sent a contingent of 82 student-athletes and coaches. The largest number the institution has ever fielded for the biennial university games. The team will represent MUST in a wide array of disciplines, including:
- Volleyball Netball, and Handball.
- Scrabble, Chess, Table Tennis, and Darts.
- Karate, Lawn Tennis, and Athletics.
The delegation is led by the Senior Sports Tutor, Mr. Benson Kanyesigye, and the Chairperson of the Sports and Games Union, Mr. Stewart Agaba.

Leadership Commends Discipline and Wellbeing

In her remarks, Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika expressed her deep admiration for student-athletes, noting that sports is a clear sign of discipline that directly contributes to mental health and overall wellbeing. She encouraged the students to enjoy the experience and gave them a clear charge: “Have fun while at it and come back with trophies.”

University Secretary Mr. Vincent Kwatampora extended his gratitude to the Office of the Dean of Students and the athletes themselves. Looking toward the future, he pledged increased support for the improvement of university sports facilities starting next year.
Prepared for Victory

Mr. Stewart Agaba, Chairperson of the Sports Union, thanked the university administration for their unwavering support. He highlighted that despite the semester closing two weeks ago, the university provided full-board support for the team to stay on campus and engage in intensive preparations for the games.

The Sports Tutor, Mr. Benson Kanyesigye, also commended the administration and introduced the specialized coaches for the various disciplines who have been working tirelessly with the athletes.
The 20th AUUS Games are being hosted at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono. The competition begins today, Thursday, December 18, and will conclude on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
