FAST Faculty complete inaugural Tilenga “Train-the-Trainers” Program

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has made history as the first institution enrolled under the Tilenga Train-the-Trainers Program to have a comprehensive tour of a drilling rig and observe real-time drilling operations.  Through the program, seven faculty members from the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology participated in the one-week exposure visit and successfully completed the onsite induction training. This pioneering program, organized by ZPEB (U) Co. Limited, ran from July 7th to 11th, 2025, marking a significant step in fostering technology and knowledge transfer from industry to academia.

Led by Eng. Fortunate Ogene, Head of Department (Energy, Minerals and Petroleum Studies) and program coordinator, the MUST team gained invaluable practical experience. Eng. Ogene expressed deep gratitude to ZPEB, stating, “We are indebted to ZPEB for this opportunity, for it will shape and improve the industry-academia relationship and improve the quality of knowledge transfer to students.”

He further emphasized that the long-term vision is to provide MUST staff and students with exposure to the latest technological advancements in the engineering world, enabling them to deliver to the best of their ability and align with the university’s mandate.

This collaboration is expected to significantly enhance the practical relevance of academic programs at MUST, directly benefiting students who will gain insights into current industry practices and technologies.
