In 2021, the WHO reported 11.9 million new stroke cases, with stroke being the third leading cause of death and disability globally. With stroke, there is need for rapid recognition and timely intervention to improve outcomes. Advances in acute stroke care—including improved neuroimaging, organized stroke systems, and reperfusion therapies such as intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy—have significantly transformed patient survival and recovery.
