Let us join the Faculty of Medicine, Department of medical Laboratory science for an Online Presentation about Hepatitis B. This will be presented by Lauben Kumureeba who is an expert in this field.

According to Lauben, Hepatitis B, a viral infection that poses significant health risks, particularly affecting the liver. As a Microbiologist he aims at creating awareness about the implications of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) infection.

-Understanding Hepatitis B: Learn about the nature of HBV, its transmission, and the impact it has on liver health, leading to both acute and chronic diseases.

Global and Local Statistics: According to the WHO report (2024), there are approximately 296 million chronic HBV infections worldwide. In Uganda, the prevalence among adults is around 4.3%, with nearly 6% of the population estimated to be chronically infected (Elias Rugaatwa Ndibarema et al, 2022).

– Prevention and Vaccination: Discover how Hepatitis B infection is preventable primarily through vaccination and the importance of public health initiatives.

– Diagnosis and Testing: Understand why laboratory testing is essential for diagnosing HBV infection, as clinical symptoms alone are not sufficient for a definitive diagnosis.
