Overview
This Joint Grand round session with a title “Cardiogenic shock in Rheumatic Heart Disease.” will be presented by the Department of Internal Medicine and the Department of Emergency
Medicine, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH).
Rheumatic Heart Disease is one of the three top causes of Heart Failure in Uganda. Presentation ranges from childhood to adulthood, commonly in early 20- 30 years. Main challenge in Uganda
is late presentation with advanced stage and complications such as heart failure and cardiogenic shock.
Target Audience:
– Health care professionals involved in managing patients with rheumatic heart disease and heart failure and able to identify cardiogenic shock.
– All medical students
Learning Objectives/ Grand round purpose
– To understand Cardiogenic shock in Rheumatic Heart Disease and its management.
– To appreciate common pathophysiology and presentations of patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease.
– To understand reversible causes of cardiogenic shock in Rheumatic Heart Disease and management of organ dysfunction in cardiogenic shock.
– To be able to anticipate and mitigate common complications in managing patients with Rheumatic Heart Disease.
