Overview
Alcohol use among young people has emerged as a pressing public health concern, with early initiation and risky drinking behaviors contributing significantly to morbidity, mortality, and social harm. This presentation explores the multifaceted drivers of alcohol consumption among youth, including peer influence, social media exposure, unemployment, and weak regulatory enforcement. The physiological and psychosocial consequences of alcohol use ranging from impaired brain development and mental health challenges to academic decline and risky sexual behavior are examined. Drawing on local and global evidence, the grand round will discuss the burden of youth alcohol use, highlight gaps in policy and service delivery, and propose evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies. Emphasis will be placed on the roles of families, schools, communities, and healthcare providers in promoting resilience and healthy coping mechanisms among young people.
