A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CASE APPROACH “A Mixed Germ Cell Ovarian Tumor

Team leader is: Dr. Raymond Atwine

Overview

This Grand Rounds session will focus on A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY CASE APPROACH “A Mixed Germ Cell Ovarian Tumor.” This will be led by Dr. Raymond Atwine, a Senior lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology Department of Pathology. Dr. Raymond Atwine is the Head of Department Pathology.

Ovarian tumors, though relatively common, present a unique challenge in both diagnosis and management, particularly when they exhibit mixed histological features. These tumors can encompass a broad spectrum of pathologic entities, including epithelial, stromal, and germ cell components, which often overlap in a way that complicates their diagnosis and treatment strategies.

We shall emphasize the critical importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the diagnosis and management of mixed ovarian tumors. As we walk through this case, we will highlight the roles of various specialties—from radiology and pathology to gynecology—in providing a comprehensive diagnostic work-up and guiding treatment decisions. A collaborative approach not only enhances the accuracy of the diagnosis but also ensures the most effective treatment plan, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Target Audience:

This session is intended for Medical students, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in Gynecological Management.
