Giselle Perez, MSN, RN, is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at the University of San Diego (USD).
The public lecture will provide an overview of clinical presentations of common mental health conditions in the pediatric population.
Giselle is part of a team of 5 Nursing professionals hosted by Holy Innocents Children’s Hospital (HICH) since January 7th, 2025. The team is led by Martha Grant Fuller, PhD, PPCNP-BC, a Professor of Nursing at USD, where she teaches in the Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. Professor Fuller is also the lead faculty for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Track at USD and a nationally certified pediatric nurse practitioner with over 40 years of experience in nursing. Professor Fuller is renowned for her passion and expertise in researching developmental issues in children. The team also includes three additional DNP students: Kaitlyn Mudge, BSN, RN, CCRN; Jorge Chacon Cordero, MSN, BSN, RN; and Anna Manfreda, BSN, RN-BC.
The team has delivered lectures, hands-on training, participated in Nursing rounds to Master of Nursing Science in Pediatric Clinical Nursing students from MUST and staff members of HICH. Their visit will culminate with a pediatric outreach to Rubindi on 14/1/2025.They are also learning about healthcare delivery in Uganda and actively engaging in a mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences with nurses and healthcare providers.
Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) is developing a path for continued collaboration with USD, with particular interest in the following areas:
a) Development of academic programs and courses
b) Promotion of collaboration between academic staff and researchers for the purposes of teaching and research
c) Assistance for visiting academic staff and students
d) Coordination of activities such as joint research, lecturing, and training
e) Exchange of documentation, research materials, publications, and information in fields of mutual interest
f) Other activities of mutual benefit to both institutions
The University of San Diego has a long-standing relationship with HICH, supporting the hospital through the supply of essential logistics, staff development initiatives, and infrastructure development. This partnership continues to strengthen healthcare services and professional capacity at HICH.
