Mbarara, Uganda – Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), in partnership with Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) and MEDLEND Medical Missions from Burlingame, USA, is proud to announce a free Urogynecology Camp from October 5th to 11th, 2024. This camp aligns with MUST’s mission of providing equitable quality education and research, with a focus on science, technology, and their application to community development.

Led by Dr. Michael Margolis from the USA and Dr. Musa Kayondo (PhD) from MUST, the camp will offer a range of services, including:

  • Screening: Identifying patients with urogynecological conditions.
  • Surgeries: Providing surgical treatment for conditions like obstetric fistula, urine incontinence, stool incontinence, genital prolapse, and more.

Obstetric fistula, a preventable condition often caused by obstructed labor, can have devastating consequences for women’s health and well-being. This camp aims to address this issue and provide relief to affected individuals.

To identify patients, a community outreach program will be conducted. Patients and care takers will be catered for full board

Dr. Kayondo emphasized the importance of antenatal care, timely referrals, and keeping children in school to prevent early pregnancies and reduce the incidence of obstetric fistula.

MUST’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is also committed to training the next generation of healthcare professionals. They offer postgraduate programs in Fistula and Urogynecology surgery, as well as a Fellowship in Fistula and Urogynecology.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the MEDLEND Medical Missions team for their continued partnership and dedication to improving women’s health. Together, we can make a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals.
