Dear Members of the MUST Community, I hope this message finds you well.

On 30th January 2025, the Ministry of Health confirmed an outbreak of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease in Kampala. This followed laboratory confirmation at three national reference laboratories, from samples drawn from an index case of a 32-year old male. This marks the eighth Ebola outbreak in Uganda.

Ebola virus disease is often severe with very high fatality. It spreads through direct contact with infected body fluids of an infected person or animal. https://www.unicef.org/uganda/ebola

The Ministry of Health has activated the Incident Management Team and dispatched Rapid Response Teams to the communities of the initial case to list and isolate all contacts for active follow up.

It is imperative that we adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of this virus.
