What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a medical profession that aims to alleviate pain and restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness, disability or the process of ageing. Having been in existence for over 50 years, Physiotherapy is an internationally recognised and fast growing profession. Training in Uganda started in 1971 and is overseen by the Allied Health Professions Council and the Uganda Association of Physiotherapy.

Who are physiotherapists?

Physiotherapists are people who are trained in physiotherapy. They are skilled professionals who work in a variety of both public and private settings such as hospital, clinics, sports clubs, industries and community settings. Physiotherapists are often referred to as ‘movement specialists’. They are trained to assess and treat a variety of conditions that affect the physical function of adults and children.
