The Faculty of Agriculture, Environment and Veterinary Sciences (FAEVS) is pleased to invite the University community and the public to an insightful webinar exploring the foundational role of microorganisms in our changing world.
Across the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), microorganisms are central to food systems, ecosystem functions, and environmental resilience. In this session, we will discuss how human, plant, animal, and planetary health are deeply interconnected through microbial processes from essential decomposition to agricultural innovation.
- Moderator: Ronald Twongyirwe
- Keynote Speaker: Dr. Expedito Olimi (Ph.D.),Erwin Schrödinger Research Fellow
Dr. Olimi is a distinguished microbial ecologist, biotechnologist, and nematologist. He is currently a recipient of the prestigious Erwin Schrödinger Research Fellowship, conducting advanced research on the seed microbiome hosted by the University of Southampton (UK) and the Institute of Environmental Biotechnology at Graz University of Technology (Austria). During this seminar, he will draw on African research contexts and global collaborative science to highlight the practical applications of microbiome concepts.
