Grand Round: Transmission dynamics of Carbapenem- Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)

Team leader is Dr. Barbra Tuhamize

This Grand round session will focus on the transmission dynamics of Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in southwestern Uganda. It will be led by Dr. Barbra Tuhamize a lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

Discover how genomic surveillance unveils CRE spread between hospitals, households, animals, and the environment under the One Health framework. The study highlights shared resistance genes and plasmids linking hospital and community isolates, revealing potential transmission pathways.

Don’t miss this insightful discussion on antimicrobial resistance genomics and public health implications in rural-urban Uganda.

Target Audience:

This session is intended for Medical students, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in Healthcare Management.

Learning Objectives/ Grand round purpose

To equip medical students of MUST and the entire community on the antimicrobial resistance genomics and public health implications in rural-urban Uganda.
