Topic: Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) in Children.

This Grand Rounds session will focus on the Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) in Children. This will be led by Dr. Dorah Nampijja, she is a Paediatric Cardiologist and Senior lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology Department of Paediatric & Child Health.

Overview:
Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) is a prevalent congenital cardiac anomaly particularly in preterm characterized by persistent left to right shunting between the aorta and pulmonary artery. PDA remains one of the most common and treatable congenital defects in children yet it’s consequences can be life threatening if missed. This presentation will review the pathophysiology, clinical spectrum the diagnostic role of cardiac echo and the current evidence based interventions.
We will have a team of cardiologists and Paediatric Cardiac Surgeons presenting the management of PDA.

Target Audience:
This session is intended for Medical students, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in Child Health Care Management.
Learning Objectives/ Grand round purpose To equip medical students of MUST and the surrounding communities with awareness and knowledge about the Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) in Children.
