Join us for a Grand Round titled Identifying children with childhood cancer in the community. The role of a health professional trainee. This session will be led by Dr. Elias Kumbakumba, a Senior lecturer and head of department of Pediatrics and Child health at Mbarara University of Science and Technology Department and Mbarara Regional Referral hospital respectively.
Target Audience: This session is intended for Medical students, pediatricians, general practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of children.
Problem/ identified gap
Childhood cancer is becoming and important cause of morbidity and mortality among children in the developing world. 90% of children who develop cancer worldwide live in the developing world, where facilities for diagnosis and treatment are still a challenge, resulting in poor outcomes.
Learning Objectives/ Grand round purpose
- To equip medical students of MUST and the surrounding communities with awareness and knowledge about childhood cancer
- To support medical students of MUST, develop an index of suspicion.
- To hopefully, contribute to early referral and diagnosis and improved outcomes.

- Case Presentations by Dr. Phiona Nabaggala and Dr. Joan Munduru
- Closing Remarks: Dr. Kumakumba will summarize the key takeaways from the session and provide concluding remarks.
