Drug Induced Electrolyte Disorders Grand round

Drug-induced electrolyte disorders occur when medications affect the balance of essential minerals, like sodium, potassium, calcium, or magnesium, in the body.

These minerals (electrolytes), help regulate vital functions such as heart rhythm, muscle contractions, and fluid balance. Certain drugs can cause levels of these electrolytes to become too high or too low, leading to health problems like muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, confusion, or even life-threatening complications.

Join our team of experts from the Faculty of medicine department of pharmacy discussing: Drug Induced Electrolyte Disorders. The Presentation outline is below:
1. Case presentation: Kabera Makuza Radiana
2. Classification & clinical presentation: Kitheka M. Patrick
3. Prevention & Management: Tumwebaza John Martin, Sebisaalu Joel
4. Drug interactions and conclusion: Nimusiima Godwin

This will be Moderated by Dr. Fredrick Atwiine, an  assistant lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). He is a clinical pharmacist with a Master of Pharmacy in Clinical Pharmacy from MUST. Passionate about research and training, his expertise lies in pharmaceutical care, with a focus on optimizing patient care through evidence-based medicine.
