The President of the Republic of Uganda is the Visitor
In October 1989, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni thoughtfully established a second public university in Western Uganda. Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST); the university was opened under The 1989 Statue passed by the National Resistance Council. As the records would have it, this was at the time when Uganda’s economy and social infrastructure had collapsed during the civil wars in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Under H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s leadership a team of Cuban professors and Prof. F. I. B. Kayanja collaborated to establish Mbarara University of Science and Technology. The team modified the physical facilities of the former School of Midwifery at the Mbarara District hospital.
The President since then has supported MUST through the Ministry Of Education and Sports, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of ICT, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, and other government arms. These have continuously enhanced MUST’s growth and development with different projects, partnerships and collaboration.
In recognition of his support for education, different awards have been bestowed upon H.E among which include:
1994, Humphrey School of Public Affairs, Doctor of Laws.
2003, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Doctor of Laws.
2007, Latin University of Theology, Doctor of Divinity.
2010, Fatih University, Honorary Degree
2010, Makerere University, Doctor of Laws
2015, University of Dar es Salaam, Doctor of Literature
