The Faculty of Development Studies - Background

The Faculty of Development Studies (FDS) contributes to the interdisciplinary analysis of development in Uganda, by focusing practically on the comparative problems and prospects for Uganda and the Great Lakes region.

Other faculty objectives include; advancing capacity in development studies by contributing to local, national and international policymaking. The faculty also co-operates with other faculties or institutes at MUST and elsewhere in Africa and beyond for informed perspectives development, through the inter-related pursuit of teaching, supervision, research, publication, debate and providing policy inputs.

The Development Studies  course is designed to provide knowledge to students on development discourse in the world with particular emphasis on Africa. The development debates and the crisis of development theories are some of the most important aspects considered in this course.

Upon completion students are expected  to have an idea on what would be the ideal African development strategy. The course equips students with development and planning issues involving social, economic and poltical aspects.

The faculty  has established links with other institutions, for academic staff exchange programs and visitation to enrich and promote academic cooperation.

The established links include: Antwerp University - Belgium, Tilburg University-Netherlands, Midlands State University - Zimbabwe, Makerere University under MACOMBA Link, Dalhousie Univesity - Canada and Vaxjo University and Universities in Sweden.
