Professor Peter Ndimbirwe Mugyenyi:
Professor Mugyenyi currently works as the Executive Director of the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) where he has served since 1992. Through his hard work he has established a state of the art clinical and research laboratory to carry out a variety of tests and studies including HIV vaccine trials in Uganda.
In addition, he has held important responsibilities in academic institutions as well as national and international organizations including Chair and University Council and visiting Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Mbarara University.
He has successfully worked towards the establishment of high quality Aids care and treatment program based on the joint Clinical Research Centre Network Model that has been widely adopted to inform rapid scale up strategies of antiretroviral therapy in resource constrained countries.
Professor Mugyenyi has championed in the HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and advocacy. He became the first non- American to be invited to sit in the US Congress Royal Box during the 2002 State on the Union address by the first Lady Mrs. Laura Bush where, President Bush announced $15billion emergency fund to fight the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa and the Carribean.
