Prevalence of pulmunary tuberculosis in patients at Mbarara University Teaching Hospital from 1993 to 2003. Rodriquez, T, Bazira, J, Nkangi Lwanga, E., Mwesigye J, and Kyomuhangi, T

Abstract

A retrospective study, including analysis of the results of all the sputum proceesd in microbiology laboratory of Mbarara University Teaching Hospital for aid alchohol fast bacilli ( AAFB) from in and out patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis, was performed during an eleven year period from 1993 to 2003.  Analysis has revealed that the prevalence of pulmunary tuberclosis during this period was 15.6% 62.8% of patients affected were male and the majority of patients were aged between 21-50 years, the most productive and sexually active ages. The positively in follow up patients was relatively high. The possibility of multi-drug ressistant TB ( MDR-TB) exits.
