Mbarara University of Science and Technology held its 23rd Graduation Congregation on Saturday 28th January 2017 at the university's Kihumuro Campus in Mbarara District.
The ceremony was presided over by the University Chancellor, Professor Peter Mugyenyi while the Government of Uganda was represented by the Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo. The University Vice Chancellor, Professor Celestino Obua, in his address to the congregation informed the guests about the university's continued progress in developing the infrastructure at the Kihumuro Campus, He particularly mentioned the ongoing construction of the University Library and the Multi-Purpose Science and Technology Laboratories under the African Development Bank- HEST Project. The Vice Chancellor also announced the commencement of the Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in January 2017, a major development in the history of the university.
Hon. Muyingo reiterated the government's commitment at ensuring that the Kihumuro Campus is fully developed and utilised. The minister also asked the university academic staff to embrace ICT enabled teaching methods to match the current technological trends.
At the ceremony over 1,000 graduands recieved degrees and diplomas which included 8 Degrees of Philosophy (PhDs).
